New AP Resources

In the 2019-20 school year, the College Board is introducing an online suite of new resources for teachers & students. Students will be given a ‘join code’ to access these resources for each AP course s/he may take moving forward. Our teachers are excited about these opportunities for our students and will be sharing more information in the fall.

New AP Processes for 2019-2020

Exams are still administered in the first two full weeks in May and the exam fees are unchanged, but College Board has moved registration for exams to the fall. All CVHS AP students are expected to take the AP exam. The exam cost will be paid through course fees due in the fall. Scores will be reported on the usual timelines.

AP Capstone Diploma Program New in the 2019-2020 school year!

CVHS is one of only 2 schools in DCSD that will be offering the prestigious AP Capstone Diploma Program in the 2019-2020 school year!

AP Capstone is an innovative program that equips students with the independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills that are increasingly valued by colleges. It is composed of two year-long courses:

  1. AP Seminar (taken as a junior) which provides sustained practice of investigating issues from multiple perspectives and cultivates student writing abilities so they can craft, communicate, and defend evidence-based arguments
  2. AP Research (taken as a senior) which allows students to explore deeply an academic topic, problem, or issue of individual interest and through this inquiry, students design, plan, and conduct a year-long mentored, research-based investigation.

Participating in AP Capstone can help students:

  • Stand out to colleges in the application process.
  • Develop key academic skills they’ll use in college and beyond.
  • Become self-confident, independent thinkers and problem solvers.
Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing will receive the AP Capstone Diploma™. This signifies their outstanding academic achievement and attainment of college-level academic and research skills. You can find out more about this opportunity here. If your student would like to participate in this program as a junior (11th grade), please reach out to his/her CV counselor right away.
